The Women of Perry-Mansfield Camp

Join the Tread of Pioneers Museum and Opera Steamboat as they celebrate Women’s History Month and proudly present: “The Women of Perry-Mansfield Camp.” An intimate evening at the museum with living history performances featuring monologues by Charlotte Perry, Portia Mansfield, Marjorie Perry, and Eleanor Bliss. The evening will feature a musical performance from the upcoming Opera Steamboat production Welcome to the Madness,  a presentation by Dagny McKinley author of the book Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp: A History of Art in Nature, and hot happy hour drinks, including Baileys and Coffee, Hot Chocolate, and Hot Apple Pie

Repertoire will feature experts from Welcome to the Madness. This is a unique opportunity to see a composer work with singers on their own composition.

Balance and Rhythm: The Legacy of Horses at Perry-Mansfield

Accomplished riders and trainers Tammie Delany and Sally Withers along with Opera Steamboat Emerging Artist Sarah Cain discuss the importance of balance and rhythm in riding and singing. Discussion will focus on the importance of Perry-Mansfield as a site of riding education in Routt County and will highlight the riding curriculum crafted by Margery Perry and Elizabeth Shannon. The event will feature the Opera Steamboat Emerging Artists performing selections from the World Premiere vocal theater work/opera Welcome to the Madness by Leanna Kirchoff with a libretto by Rachel J. Peters.

Perry-Mansfield as the setting for Welcome to the Madness

LOCATION: The Julie Harris Theatre at Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp

Joe Haines (Executive Director of the Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp), Larry Moore (Treasurer at Historic Routt County), and Dagny McKinley (author of  Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp: A history of Art in Nature) discuss the challenges behind and importance of the historic renovation work at Perry-Mansfield and the prominence of the site to the history of the arts in Steamboat. In collaboration with Historic Routt County and Opera Steamboat, the event will highlight the rich history of the buildings on the Perry-Mansfield Campus that are the setting for the opera. Opera Steamboat Emerging Artists will perform excerpts from Welcome to the Madness, a World Premiere vocal theater work/opera, staged as a roving adventure at Perry-Mansfield in August of 2024.
