OUR HISTORY
2002
2003
In 2003, Emerald City Opera provided a vocal master class series to adults offering local singers an opportunity to work under the tutelage of visiting opera professionals in our first fully-staged production: Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
2004
In 2004, Emerald City Opera added the Touring Opera Troupe was designed to introduce young audiences to opera with entertaining stories and costumes and familiar opera music.

In 2014, Emerald City Opera began providing vocal workshops to local special needs communities including clients of Horizons and Yampa Valley Autism as well as members of the Parkinson’s Support Group
2014
In 2014, Andres Cladera was hired as Artistic Director bringing with him a new artistic vision
2017
In 2017, Emerald City Opera was rebranded as Opera Steamboat to better reflect both purpose and location
2021
In 2021, launched a series of vocal/piano concerts

Also in 2021, presented five Summer Festival operas all conducted by female conductors

In 2022, Opera Steamboat celebrated its 20th Anniversary

In the fall of 2023, Ben Robinson was hired as Interim Artistic and Executive Director which began an organizational transition in which the Opera Artist Institute was rebranded as the Emerging Artist Program and transitioned from a tuition-based program with scholarships to one where artists are paid a stipend.

In December 2023, Julie Maykowski was named General Director and CEO
2024
In 2024 the organizational structure shifted away from a summer festival season to explore year-round programming to better serve the community

Also in 2024, Opera Steamboat will present its first commission and a World Premiere vocal theatre presentation of Welcome to the Madness by Leanna Kirchoff and Rachel J. Peters in partnership with the Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp
