Soniya Fidler
Board Adviser Soniya Fidler’s stand-out memory of her early encounter with music was the observation her piano teacher made when she started lessons. “She LOVED my freakishly long fingers!,” recalls Soniya. “Because I could reach all those faraway keys!”
Soniya’s early days were filled with music. In addition to piano lessons, she played first clarinet in her school band where her favorite piece was “Hungry Eyes,” from the film “Dirty Dancing.” “It was always cool to play a hit song when you’re a teen!,” says Soniya.
Soniya enjoys singing in the car with the family. “I also enjoy reading lyrics while singing to a recording or the radio, which my husband pointed out is actually ‘Karaoke.’ I haven’t performed in actual karaoke, but who knows what’s in the future!” In addition, Soniya is excited about the intersection of music, art and health which is a key focus area for Opera Steamboat and a topic that is near and dear to her heart.
Soniya serves as president of UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center (YVMC), in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, one of 12 acute-care, full service hospitals within UCHealth.
Soniya joined YVMC in 2005 as a senior recruiter. She was promoted to chief operating officer in 2016 after holding multiple roles, including chief human resources and compliance officer. Soniya has served as president since June 2018 and is responsible for the long- and short-term strategic planning of the hospital, leading strategic, growth and operational objectives on a broad basis across hospital operations.
As a long-time resident of Steamboat Springs, Soniya represents YVMC within the community through participation in local boards, task forces and community events. She currently holds active board seats with the Steamboat Springs Chamber, Old Town Hot Springs and The Health Partnership. Additionally, she serves as a board adviser for Opera Steamboat and is a Ski Town Rotary Club member.
A native of Pittsburgh, Soniya has lived in Steamboat Springs since 2000. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration-finance from West Virginia University and a master’s degree in organizational leadership-human resource management from Regis University.
Soniya, together with her husband and two children, enjoys all that Steamboat has to offer, be it on mountain bike trails or the snow-covered slopes!
