The Variations Piano Series showcases world-class pianists.

In spring of 2022, we launched our first annual Variations Piano Series to showcase renowned pianists from all over the country in concerts throughout the year. We are thrilled to bring these talented artists to the Steamboat Springs community!

Alaina

Kristin Ditlow is a renowned pianist and conductor.  In addition to presenting this concert, she is also the conductor for our upcoming The Three Feathers family-friendly opera which will be performanced on August 12th and 13th at the Steamboat Springs Middle School at 7 p.m. each evening.

Kristin made her Opera Steamboat debut in 2021 as the music director of Le Nozze di Figaro. She has trained as a solo coach and conductor at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Westminster Choir College, Tanglewood Music Center, Franz Schubert Institut, San Francisco Opera Center-Merola, and the Eastman School of Music. She will make house conducting debuts at Salt Marsh Opera, Permian Basin Opera, and Opera Ithaca during the 2021-2022 season. She is the Music Director of the University of New Mexico Opera Theatre and has been an Assistant Professor of Vocal Coaching at UNM since 2014. Her solo recital will include works inspired by song and opera. These will be released on her upcoming CD, Passage, on the Affetto label in 2023.

Alaina de Bellevue is a highly sought-after freelance pianist, specializing in operatic and ballet repertoire residing in Boulder, Colorado.

Alaina is also a vocal coach and music director. She currently serves on the music staff of Sarasota Opera as an assistant conductor, as well as on faculty of Colorado State University as music director and vocal coach for the Ralph Opera Center.

In addition to her work in opera, she appears regularly with Centennial State Ballet as a repetiteur and as an orchestral pianist for Colorado Mahlerfest, Boulder Chamber Orchestra, and Front Range Chamber Orchestra. While living in Germany, she served on the music staff for Opera et Cetera in Wiesbaden, German Singer Sommer in Freiberg, and as a chamber musician at Talis Festival in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. de Bellevue holds a Masters in Collaborative Piano and an Artist Diploma in Vocal Coaching from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Their intuition for conversation coupled with a commanding stage presence has made them regularly in demand throughout the world. Founded in 2017, the Los Angeles based husband and wife duo, Vijay Venkatesh and Eva Schaumkell, have performed more than 40 recitals together in the last season, including the InConcert Series, the Trinity Concert Series, the Music Guild, Le Salon de Musiques at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, L’ermitage Foundation, Masters in the Chapel Series, South Coast Symphony, Vicente Chamber Orchestra, Waring Gala, and the Kultur unter’m Dach series in Germany.

International pianist and educator, Jeremy Reger maintains an active performing and coaching career. He has worked on programs for Central City Opera, Seattle Opera, and the Western Slope Concert Series. He also served as the principal pianist and vocal coach for the Brazilian premiere of Samuel Barber’s “Vanessa” in São Paulo, Brazil. Along with serving on the music staff of Virginia Opera, Eugene Opera, Hawaii Opera Theater, Mill City Opera, Central City Opera, Minnesota Opera, Skylark Opera and Aspen Opera Theater, he has also performed with the Virginia Symphony, the Boulder Philharmonic, the Williamsburg Symphony, the Carmel Symphony, and the Boulder Bach Ensemble. He is an associate professor of vocal coaching at CU Boulder as well as the head coach of the Eklund Opera Program. A strong advocate of new opera, Reger has participated in workshops of new opera by composers such as Jake Heggie, Tom Cipullo, Ricky Ian Gordon, Kevin Putz, and Mark Adamo. Reger earned a doctorate in collaborative piano from the University of Michigan under Martin Katz.
