IN THE COMMUNITY

Communities throughout the world tell their stories in songs. Opera is one unique version of this international tradition.

Since 2014 Opera Steamboat has committed to working with and for our community to develop new audiences, explore new spaces, and tell stories through song.

We connect with many nonprofit partners to ensure our work is relevant, respectful, and supportive of Northwest Colorado.

To date, we have created program partnerships with the following nonprofits in Northwest Colorado:

Our work with Yampa Valley Autism, Horizons and the NorthWest Center for Independence is led by Dr. Dan Comstock, DMA. Dr. Comstock’s unique musical programs with Yampa Valley Autism and Horizons help developmentally disabled clients increase communication skills by using music to access deep memories. Opera Steamboat has been working in the schools of Northwest Colorado since 2004. We bring live opera performance and music education to schools in Routt, Moffat and Jackson County each year. We also have a new pilot program with North Routt Community Charter School in Clark, CO which deploys monthly workshops to teach the basics of music making and appreciation to their students K-8. Do you have ideas about a collaboration we haven’t thought of? If so we would love to hear from you – reach out to our Civic Practice and Operations Manager Thea at thea@operasteamboat.org.
